1991

January 13th, 1991 Phil Mickelson wins the Tucson Open at Starr Pass as an amateur. With a score of -16 and a 1 stroke lead over Tom Purtzer. Purtzer, Tway and the rest of the field will go on to split Phil's winnings that year. Mickelson's one-shot lead in the final round quickly transformed into a three shot deficit following a triple bogey 14th hole. However, he staged a comeback by securing birdies on two of the last three holes. His fortunes improved further when Purtzer double-bogeyed the last hole of the day.
